I hear the voices from fairytale days,
of bruised knees and bloody noses in the night,
of dogs and games and Disney
to pouts and pen and ink on walls—
and happy endings to bursting and weary days.
I hear the voices of sweet Camelot hours,
of swings and things dirty and germy,
of teeth brushed and songs sung
to whines and colds and sorrys—
weary endings to full and happy days.
Now worlds distant in faith and place,
there’s weakness in these spiraling days,
and all I can do is cry and pray
when I hear them in the night—
I still hear the voices.

Thanks!
WOW! I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!!!! Yep!
Tough stuff . . .
I love the voices in your poetry and the photograph is the echo. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Nice observaiton.
The photo is an apt component to these very touching lines. Nice work on both.
“thank you
Beautiful lines and a lovely photo!
Thank you. I hadn’t been out behind the school for a while, and these swings were fairly new. Fun color!
Awww…. reminding me to enjoy the chatter! 🙂
Absolutely–the sweetest of days. 🙂
Sounds of children playing, such pleasant sounds, along with all the rest you signify, “…happy endings to bursting and weary days…” and “weary endings to full and happy days”. Lucky were any students who were given the gift of you for Teacher…
hello, ms. lily,
i like the contrast – “…and happy endings to bursting and weary days.” as against, “weary endings to full and happy days.” btw, the kids are all grown up now?^^ i like the imagery and the lightness of the poem. 🙂
All grown, but one still in the nest.
