I Caught the Wind Today

2-'12

I caught the wind today.

It wrestled my hair, trapped in the tangles.

It rushed in my mouth, stealing my words, pressing the back of my dry throat,

then rushed out again on a squeal of joy and a breath of respect.

My coat wrapped tightly,

it snuck in the crannies, coloring cold my prickle skin,

but I hugged a tighter me, trapping it there,

warming it with my pressing.

I caught the wind today,

hair and hand and panting self;

but before I closed the door, I let it go

so to find wind still another day.

  1. It’s as if the Lord gave us the wind, and then stood back and said “Now, how are you going to put it to good use?” Good job, and I really feel the same way sometimes!

    • Thanks. In the desert some folks complain about the wind, but though it may at times blow us over, I can’t imagine not having this wonderful movement of air!

    • BTW, it’s nice to make contact with someone from the far east . . . of Canada! 🙂 I have a student who transferred in and needs another semester of geography, so I’m indoctrinating her with Canadian facts. We’ve been moving your province into place on the virual map all week! 🙂

      • I was a teacher for over 30 years, five years of that in college teaching. I started my career in BC so I had a lot to learn in my first two years. Moving around forces you to learn about other provinces/places. Nice to hear from you!

  2. Hey! This is my 1st comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you I genuinely enjoy reading through your blog posts. Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that deal with the same subjects? Many thanks!

  3. hello, ms. lily, wow to the place! wow to you!

the second pic is majestic, in the third, you seem to have gotten lucky (haha) and the last is a fitting conclusion to the series, to the emotions that your verses try to convey. very well said. ^^

catch some winds today, revel in them and be back tomorrow for another hustle, haha. :):)

  4. Great Photos. I love the color of the sky. I really enjoy the mental picture painted with by your beautifully written words.

  5. SL Schildan says:

    Wonderful photos, once again. 😀

We have wind farms in OR and WA along the eastern desert parts and the eastern end of the Columbia when the Snake flows into it. I always wonder why ours have only three blades and turn slowly instead of the multi-blade Dutch styles that go so fast they look like they will take off.

Your photos appeal to me so much because of my own love of the every changing sky. Sweet Hubs complains that there is “too much sky” in many of my photos. I tell him that is the point, it’s a photo of the sky. 😉

I would love to hear from you!
