Thought for the Day: We Need a System!

I’m thinking there should be a uniform system for comments and for seeing the previous blog and / or  the next blog.

Sometimes there’s an arrow, sometimes the name of the blog, and sometimes nothing.

Sometimes it’s at the top or the bottom or both or neither.  Always an adventure.  Well, not on mine; I know where it is on mine.

Sometimes the comment link is below, and sometimes you have to scroll all the way back to the top and with a magnifying glass try to find the word comment or maybe a dialogue bubble that is perhaps too faint for anyone but my granddaughter to see.

So here is my suggestion:

Links to comments should be above and below the blog; links to previous and next blogs should be above and below and recognizable by name.  In addition, these symbols should alert  the reader to the presence of anything at all of worth (any or all of the following–except maybe the dancing Bush!).

I think I am too dense to follow your train of thought, but I hope you don’t see this comment. 🙂

I know what you mean about trying to find the comment link, and other links. Sometimes I just give up and move on. I kinda like the dancing Bush, btw.

Now that is, basically, a sound idea, but impossible to accompllish, I think, as there are way too many different designs out for blogs. Plus, much of it depends on the settings the author/owner of the blog has. Plus on the settings for the browser of the visitor to a blog.
I, for my part, can “like” some postings directly in Firefox, some only in an IE-tab [add-on] in Firefox, some only in MS IE and some not at all: really frustrating. Sometimes there is a bar at the top of each post where I can “like”, sometimes it’s at the bottom of the posting, sometimes both. With some blogs, I have to comment first to be able to “like”, btw. What I don’ t see why it’s necessary, btw, is that I need to log in to WordPress to “like”. Oh, as to logging in: why is that necessary for every single “like” anew? Why can’t WordPress recognize that I have already logged in?
To my mind, that’s a pity as because of that – I sometimes simply give up – some blogs never get my “likes”.
As to your other suggestions, viz. making it easy to find/follow links plus navigation to previous postings, that is really something many bloggers don’t seem to be interested in. Apart from links to the oprevious/next page(s), there should be an archive and catagories. To my mind some bloggers don’t really seem to be interested to make it easy for newcomers to find older postings.
Well, that being said, I hope my blogs are not too bad in all these categories. If so, I hope someone will mention that to me.
    Best regards,
    Pit

I wasn’t able to comment on this blog. Sorry.

  5. It seems it all depends on the theme and WordPress has deemed it necessary to make countless themes to match every taste. 🙂 Blame WordPress.
But here is a suggestion, annoying dancing graphics placed predominately on a website causes me to find a different website. 😉 I am glad you usually don’t do such things.

  6. I sometimes find it difficult to find the backward and forward links. Very humorous suggestions, Lilly! I like the second pointing finger.

I would love to hear from you!
