Puppies, Babies, and Bubbles

We slide past each other with nary a glance–

okay, maybe an obligatory smile,

artificial, fixed,

pleasant, but not too pleasant.

We, the lonely, dare not touch those others–those unknowns–

because what if they were axe murderers, terrorists, or Amway salespeople.

But on a beach, on a sunny day,

walking along in our unsuspecting cosmic aloneness,

a man with 2 sticks, a string, and a bucket of suds

sends rainbow bubbles cascading in and around and over and yon;

and in a magical moment, strangers are united in their bubbling joy.

This moment is a miracle of sorts–the same miracle that unites strangers over cooing babies and cuddly puppies.

Maybe we should send bubble men to the Middle East.

Delightful poem. I’ll forward the bubble idea to Hillary. Love the pictures, and the images you described.

very well written poem, and beautiful photos of bubbles..

    • Thank you! Don’t you think it would work to ease war tensions. I guess only if we sing “Give Peace a Chance” along with the bubbles. I’m probably not ready for the real world.

      • Vicki says:

yes I do! my granddaughter and I used to make home-made bubble liquid and it was such fun, and it does bring people together to smile and enjoy such a simple thing. The powers that be should definitely try it..

I guess I’d forgotten why my screenname is “Peacenikkie.” I know the Lord has called me to be a “peacemaker,” but, of late, I had sort of pushed that calling aside, and, (getting caught up in the times and its troubles) reactivated my “conservative-anything-but-leftist” mantra. When we first came to Shekinah, I suspected anything that smacked of “Hippiedom.” But, LOVE opened my eyes, along with my spirit! I guess what I am trying to say is this kinda smacked me over the head and made me wonder…Would it maybe work?! Love you, Lilly ~0;-)

So well said, so touching, so true. Only you would see the link between bubbles, babies, peace, and good will toward men (and women).

    • It was so interesting to all of a sudden see barriers drop as everyone walking by enjoyed the bubbles and started taking pictures! A temporary peace accord. Let’s start a movement!
