An Elvis Sighting!

255 - Copy

It has been years since I have seen a California Quail!  And then only on the ground, scurrying across a road or pathway.  I have never seen them in our neighborhood, let alone in my yard.

I woke Saturday to a quail sitting on my fence, and thankfully, he did not spook while I opened the shade of my “clean” window and grabbed my camera.

The morning was a bit bright and reflective in my yard, but I managed to nab a few photos before he walked along the fence.  Then I spied his mate on the other fence under the shelter of some tree leaves.  I may have to clean more than one window if I hope to get shots on that side. 🙂  By the way, anybody know the purpose of that do-hickey Elvis type forelock?  besides looking very groovy, I wonder if it has a function.

He is gorgeous! A very royal presence and these are amazing shots through your very clear window. I have never seen a California Quail, so this was a special treat. Thanks!

What a spectacularly unusual and handsome creature. Great capture!

    The spitting image of Elvis.

  4. I’ve seen them, but not this close and these are great shots! I also loved his Elvis forelock. No idea of its purpose, though! 🙂

We have Gambel’s quail where we winter in Arizona – lots of them, and they are so much fun to watch.
Clean windows – I must do that today, since this is an ideal time of year to take pictures of the birds that are just arriving here in Canada.

I would love to hear from you!
