When I visited the Orchid Estates in Santa Barbara last summer, I wanted to get a different kind of orchid than all my others, so I chose a angraecum didieri, which is an epiphyte. (Impressed yet?) It is mounted on a piece of cork and hangs on the wall. They are not parasites, but rather have a symbiotic relationship with their host. That’s all well and good, but I wanted a blossom.
I faithfully watered it all fall. Nothing. Not even a bud. All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago, I saw a little bud, and that bud has burst on the scene with this little, delicate, white bloom. It has a beautiful fragrance that becomes stronger in the night.
Mama is happy!
