I can’t get over the different colours!
They are amazing. From what I’ve read, the color is structural, not pigment per se. It will change in different light, but is also in their control as to how they bend their feathers.
That makes it even more fascinating!

Such pretty colors. I am thinking of getting one of those window feeders for this spring. They are so expensive at Wild Birds Unlimited, around $30, if I remember.
Really? Wow, a friend sent it to me in the mail as a surprise, so I didn’t pay it myself. But it has been a lot of fun!
I just got a few nibs to make my own feeders. It was challenging to figure out how to arrange them so they wouldn’t leak, but I have them set out now. Bummer is, I have not seen one hummer at them.
I found mine. It is cheaper than 30.

Thanks for posting this. I was trying to imagine how it would have an ant moat. Quite ingenious. You know we have made our own feeders and they were used, but they were quite a pain to clean- getting anything through the pop bottle neck was a chore.
Have you had any problems with window strikes with this, or the males fighting their reflection?
Seldom, and then just a glance. Usually, they come one at a time to this one, but every so often they will share. The other feeder is close by.
