The Come and the Go of It

609 - Copy

Friends come and go—

but when they are “come,” you never suspect the “go.”

So . . . how many secrets, shared in trust, walk out the door with that one—that one with whom I had felt such kindred kindness.

It might make me more guarded—you would think—to shelter

closer the bleeding things that make me defenseless, to not so easily show my tender underbelly,

my transparent self,

to the next maybe-transient friend.  But

the trick is I keep wanting the forever kind of friend, and I keep investing the bloody bits of my private self because

hope has a hard time dying to the thought that perhaps,

just perhaps

there exists the friend-kind that will never walk away, carrying my treasures and trash with them.

This longing for the lasting: This is, I suppose, a longing for the eternal, and

I will ever be disappointed that it is not found in these temporal loves and longings.

I totally, totally get this… Being real can make us so raw.

  2. You have captured life quite well in your poem. Great post! Love your hummingbirds too :-).

WOW! Lilly, I have never read such a piece that addresses relationship(s) in this way. You know well how to expose the tenderness of the heart, the vulnerability of the spirit, and the true desire that we all possess….to be accepted, loved, and valued.

The ‘writings’ of your heart never shy away from shining the light of truth on human pain, darkness, difficulties, and heartache….but ‘Truth’ that ALWAYS remains in the depths of your soul shines brightly as it brings the reassurance of a steadfast and Holy/Perfect love of your Savior; which is sure, founded, and anchored in His Righteousness, His Faithfulness, and His Grace being extended to strengthen and be the ‘helping hand’ that is needed.

You are such a writer of transparent truth of self, life, eternity…..Well done!
