My Record of Wrongs
I kept diaries off and on as a kid, chronicling important stuff like supper menus, sibling squabbles, and crazy crushes; but it wasn’t until I began to travel and sing full time that I started journaling in earnest. Over the … Continue reading

A Maze In Grace
Fumbling, rushing headlong, hanging on and pressing in path after path, and the end becomes more and more important than these endless turns and blank walls. Persevering, stumbling, and receiving grace for the task— amazing.

Silence Meets Silence
There is a kind of silence that nourishes the soul, allows pain and busyness and life to recede to the sharp margins, leaving space, room to breathe, room to be. But there is a kind of silence that cuts like a … Continue reading

Seamless
It should be seamless—this eternal life I am living now. When this flesh is done, the Lilly that I am should gently walk into the Lilly I will be, no halting, no stumbling, a brilliant transition to everlasting, but . … Continue reading

The waiting, the now . . .
It’s the waiting that gets me. Always the waiting, never the now, longing for change, but change comes in the later. The past seems to hold regrets or nostalgia that trumps anything remotely real and present. It’s the waiting that … Continue reading

Hope and Despair
Hope and despair, side by side, comingled like lovers, estranged but intimate— of necessity joined in a world that feeds both. Hope looks beyond to the “other”— promised, longed for. Despair looks to what is, heavy and real— the pressing … Continue reading

My Book of Uncommon Prayers: Idols
Pry from my hands these little trinkets, these very important “holy” things. Break these idols that I trust in; let me know my depth of sin. Devastate me with Your nearness; fill me with Your Spirit’s blaze. In one moment, … Continue reading
When It’s All About Me
I don’t think I have a split personality; but if I did, would I know it? Maybe it’s just the neighbor’s marijuana wafting in through the swamp cooler on a hot day, or maybe I really am two people living … Continue reading
